A Community Learning Champion is a volunteer who supports people in their local community to learn and grow. We assist in the marketing of ACL (Adult and Community Learning) in the Borough of Greenwich, promoting the course providers and supporting potential learners in finding a course that best suits them.
- Are you a good listener and passionate about learning?
- Are you good at inspiring people and empowering them to explore new opportunities?
Then call us on 020 8853 1331. Anyone can be a Community Learning Champion; it doesn’t require much time and you will be fully trained.
Greenwich Community Learning Champions: Background
In August 2011 the Greenwich CLC Project had its 10 Year Anniversary. This project started as a pilot in 2001 in response to the Government’s initiative for Life Long Learning and as a result of partnerships forged between Greenwich Council Education Department, Greenwich Community College, Volunteer Centre Greenwich, Prospects Next Step and HM Prison, Belmarsh. Volunteer Centre Greenwich, due to our expertise in volunteer management, has been running this project since August 2004.
Greenwich Community Learning Champions: What we do
As Community Learning Champions we get out there into the local community to market ACL (Adult and Community Learning) in the Borough of Greenwich, promoting the local course providers. We do this by attending local community events and distributing course prospectuses throughout the Borough.
In addition, we support potential learners in finding a course that best suits them. We do this by attending course providers’ enrolment days and manning our Library Signposting sites. Community Learning Champions also promote Life Long Learning through their day to day activities, supporting friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues into adult learning.
Greenwich Community Learning Champions: Is it for me?
If you are passionate about Life Long Learning and can offer a few hours a week then this could be a volunteering opportunity that suits you. We provide training and, funds permitting, actively involved Champions are invited to attend NVQ Level 2 in Advice and Guidance accredited by OCN. All new Community Learning Champions attend a mandatory induction day that will clearly outline their role and a one-day workshop on Information, Advice and Guidance.
Community Learning Champions in Greenwich are invited and encouraged to attend a ‘Forum’ meeting every six weeks, where they can meet and exchange information and give support to one another.
